Studential project

Solo project

2026

Created as part of a motion design course. This project explores how a book and its story can be translated into visual storytelling through composition and motion.

CONCEPT

CONCEPT

'Children of the World' is a book series that captures genuine encounters between kids from different cultures and countries.

'Noriko-San: Girl of Japan' brings together Swedish and Japanese cultures. It is a book my mom grow up with, and later passed on to me.

My goal was to translate cultural meeting points into a visual dialogue. I aimed to create a serene and mellow atmosphere inspired by Japanese culture, using parallel symbols and circular forms and motions to reflect balance and continuity.

STYLE REFERENCE

STYLE REFERENCE

Inspired by 1950׳s Japanese and Swedish folk style.

Exploring textures, patterns, organic brushes and muted color palette with a dominant red, referencing the sun, spirituality and celebration in Japanese culture.

TYPOGRAPHY

TYPOGRAPHY

I explored traditional Japanese calligraphy and the Swedish diacritical marks.

All typography was created by hand, combining calligraphy with Swedish marks into a unified typographic style.

SOUNDTRACK

SOUNDTRACK

The soundtrack was generated using AI (Suno) to align closely with the narrative and concept.

It begins with a Japanese inspired tone- minimal and calm, and gradually evolves into a blend of Japanese and Swedish folk elements.

This creates an additional cultural meeting point within the music, emphasizing the project’s core concept.

THE RIGHT ANGLE

THE RIGHT ANGLE

I used a 3D model of a Japanese torii gate to explore different perspectives and angles.

This allowed me to look past static references and experiment with more dynamic and unexpected viewpoints.

STORYBOARD

STORYBOARD

First rough sketches defining composition and visual flow.

Then, I used ChatGPT to generate some visual frames, and refined them in photoshop.
